(…)The visit to the quilt shop in Siem Reap was to purchase a quilt for our grand daughter; we had read about it in a travel brochure and decided to take a look. When I walked into the shop, I was really amazed with the colour and quality of the quilts. After spending time with the girls and listening to the stories of the benefits for the women and their villages, I decided then and there that my children would be getting a quilt for a Christmas present this year.

On the way back to the hotel and feeling very happy with my purchases, I was overwhelmed when the idea came to me that I might be able to promote the quilts in Australia. This is what I had been looking for. This is how I can help! (...) My first impression when I first viewed the quilts at the store was an exceptional product in colour, design, andworkmanship. In Australia quilting is very popular and there are many shops that supply quilting materials for the home quilter. If you aren’t brave enough to take up the challenge, (and there are many) of making a quilt for yourself, the other option would be to purchase a completed quilt, which is limited and also very expensive. With these reasons in mind I am sure your beautiful quilts will be very sought after when they are shown to the Western Australian public.

These are my main objectives: Promote the cause, work and objectives of Mekong Plus. Promote the women’s work and how they benefits. Promote the exceptional quality of the product: design, workmanship, versatility (custom made quilts, wall hangings). Promote the Mekong-Quilts web site. To liaise with customer queries and forward them on to Mekong Quilts. I hope to achieve these objectives in the following ways:

Near future

  1. Being able to show a catalogue with design, colours, sizes and costs also samples of fabrics.
  2. Inviting people to my home to view the product and encourage them to tell others.
  3. Setting up a room in my home for people to view the quilts, etc.
  4. Showing quilts at a District Show in late November.
  5. Promoting to organisations.
  6. An article in the Community Newspaper.

2010

  1. Research relevance and cost of different fairs, expos to present and promote quilts.
  2. Promote quilts on a coffee and cake afternoon at my home.
  3. Promote smaller quilts as wall hangings. (custom design)
  4. Continual researching different avenues for sales.
