Mekong-Quilts supports community development programs in remote villages in Cambodia and in Vietnam. Its key objective is to generate employment for women. One hundred per cent of profits from its quilt shops are returned to the villages. Mekong-Quilts focus is to provide rewarding employment, increase family incomes and improve conditions for children in these remote communities. Over 500 microcredits have been given and 200 scholarships.

Mekong-Quilts was previously called Vietnam Quilts.Vietnam-Quilts was started in Vietnam and due to the expansion to Cambodia, the name changes to Mekong-Quilts. Mekong-Quilts is a Mekong Plus program.

Quilting is the perfect activity for an employment activity, as it is relatively simple to learn, requires a low amount of capital expense to begin with and is a very labour intensive activity. Vietnam Quilts started thanks to Thanh Truong, who has a passion for quilts. A training programme was launched, with the help of Stacey, and the first quilts were sold Tupperware style in people’s homes.
